Swan Manufacturing (Gamages) C1914-1917




Fully restored by David Kiss of the Rocking Horse Workshop UK in 1998, original stand, brackets, irons, stencilled name on stand, id number plate on stomach, some minor paint damage but overall condition excellent, very pretty 41" horse and a rare find. Retailed in its time by Gamages Department Stores. The manufacturing firm was also referred to as Simpson, Fawcett & Co.  * * *   S O L D   * * *
1908 STAR MANUFACTURING CO. * Firm founded in 1887 to manufacture baby carriages and dolls prams. In 1908 they expanded their range to include rocking horses, swing horses, tricycles, toy motor cars and dolls houses. In 1915 their trademark ‘Swan’ was adopted. In 1917 the firm changed its name to Star Toy Company and added miniature ships and soft toys to its range.*Extract from Marguerite Fawdry’s Rocking Horses

An immaculate horse in 97% original condition with some minor cosmetic restoration by Jan Rusling of Rocking Horse Elite UK.

Original stand, brackets and irons, all in excellent working order. Overall a substantial and stunning 52" horse. Very hard to find a horse of this age in this wonderful condition.
